MORGANTOWN — Two for the price of one.

That’s how it was for West Virginia University as it hit the jackpot in recruiting the Washington, D.C., area.

The Mountaineers landed the Roberts twins — Vance and Vernard — out of Dunbar High, according to their coach, Craig Jefferies.

Vance is a cornerback who carries four stars with his name, Vernard a running back with three stars.

That is not the only way the two differ.

“Although they’re twins they try to separate themselves a little bit,” Jefferies told an internet site. “One has dreads and the other is clean cut, but when you sit in a room and talk to them, they both sound like the same person.”

Vance, who is 5-10 and 185 pounds, selected WVU over Marshall, Connecticut Rutgers and Syracuse. He comes into a senior season after a junior year in which he had 55 tackles and five interceptions while returning 12 punts for touchdowns.

Vance committed first, Vernard a short time later but the two have said that they made their minds up a while back but wanted to be sure, waiting until July 1.

“Bill Stewart did a marvelous job with the program and Chris Beatty did a great job recruiting them and staying on them and letting them know much they would fit in and how much the Mountaineers wanted them,” Jefferies said.
